Mike has worked in the legal profession since 1995 and qualified as a solicitor in 1998, dealing predominantly with personal injury work. Mike set up Pilkington Shaw in 2008 after leaving his previous job in a catastrophic injury team, helping people with paralysis and spinal and brain injuries. The practice was initially based in his garden shed but happily the practice soon outgrew it.
Mike now deals with a small number of high value and complex cases, but spends most of his time managing the practice. When he isn’t at work, Mike enjoys playing guitar, spending time with his wife and children, and occasionally practicing Shotokan karate, in which he holds a black belt.

If you could have fifteen minutes with a famous person who would it be and why
My musical hero – Frank Zappa. Frank died in 1993 but I’d spend five minutes getting his thoughts about the current state of American politics, and rest on his compositional ideas and processes.
